The National Weather Service will conduct the Annual Severe Weather
Tornado Drill at 10:00 AM on March 6, 2018. All are encouraged to
participate in the drill.
The National
Weather Service in Topeka, KS will issue a test tornado warning as part
of the drill. NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radios and the Emergency Alert
System (EAS) will be activated to signal the start of the drill. Local
officials may sound outdoor warning systems to initiate the drill.
Emporia will participate in the drill and sound the outdoor warning
system (tornado sirens) on Monday at noon during the regularly scheduled
weekly test of the system. Sirens in Emporia will not sound on
Tuesday.
Take a moment on Monday at noon or Tuesday at 10:00 AM
to practice your plans to seek shelter on the lowest level, most
interior space, of a hardened structure. More information regarding
severe weather preparedness is available at http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/tornado/.
