Turn Around Don't Drown! Do not attempt to drive or walk across a flooded road or low water crossing. You cannot be sure about the depth of the water or the condition of the roadway. The road might be washed out. Two feet of moving water will carry away most vehicles. Six inches of fast-moving water will knock you off your feet.
If your vehicle is suddenly caught in rising water, leave it immediately and get to higher ground.

ELECTRICAL OUTAGE
We have been working with Westar to provide a window of time to allow them to perform maintenance and repairs on their electrical substation located on our campus. This occurs every 5 to 7 years. After consideration of many different dates the outage has been set to occur on Sunday, May 19, 2019 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. . This will not affect the art compound location, the Sauder Alumni Center, the Earl Center or the Trusler Sports Complex. Emergency generators will be in operation at Cremer hall (to keep I.T.’s main computer operation up), Science Hall (to keep designated essential pieces of equipment operating), Police and Safety, Memorial Union (for emergency lights and cold food storage) and the Power Plant. I.T. on-line operations will be operational from off campus during this time. The campus will be closed to the public during this time. There will be no electrical power, lights or HVAC. This will be a “hard” shut off and turn on. Please be sure to back up and turn off any computers or equipment that can be affected by this. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this outage at mrunge@emporia.edu . We regret any inconvenience this will cause but I’m sure that a planned outage is far better than having it unplanned. Thanks for your cooperation.

Doing an Internship this Summer or next Fall? Get Credit for it!
Students: if you are participating in an Internship this Summer or next Fall, make sure you are getting Academic Credit for it. Check with your Academic Advisor to see if there are Internship Courses offered for your major that count towards your degree requirements. If your major DOES NOT offer Academic Credit for your Internship, consider taking an Internship Course through Career Services!
Career Services has multiple Internship Course offerings, including our new ZERO CREDIT-HOUR Internship Course. Yes, you read that right: we offer an Internship Course that is Zero Credit-Hours that you can complete, as long as you are participating in an Internship that will require at least 50 hours of work on-site. The best part of the Zero-Credit Hour Internship Course is that it has NO cost of Tuition...and you still get to have the Internship Experience put on your transcript, as well as participate in a course that enhances what you will learn during your Internship experience.
In addition to the Zero-Credit Hour Internship Course, Career Services also offers Internship courses ranging from 1-6 Credit Hours for any students wanting Academic Credit for your Internships.
Interested? Contact Joel Ewy in Career Services at jewy@emporia.edu or 620-341-5159 with any questions!

Friends of International Students (FIS)
Are you going to be in Emporia this summer and looking for some friends?
Emporia State University is welcoming a group of Japanese Students for a 6 week intensive immersion period to help them ease into their term abroad, and we're looking to set them up with a Friends of International Students (FIS) partner from the community.
You and your assigned partner would meet up one(+) hour per week for coffee, a meal, a walk, whatever! The intention is just to give them easier access to a native english speaker to have casual conversation with.
If you would like to get to know an international student and will be available for one hour per week between June 1 to August 7, sign up now! Students, faculty, and staff are all welcome!
For any questions, email us at czenno@emporia.edu
