Need a Part-time Job Over the Holiday Break (and Beyond)?

With a spike in COVID-19 cases in schools, many school districts are experiencing staff shortages and are in need of substitute teachers. College students who meet the eligibility requirements (see below) could potentially assist with addressing this shortage while they are home for the holiday break and as their schedules allow.

  1. To apply for the emergency substitute license, please fill out form 8, located at www.ksde.org, under the Teaching & Learning tab: https://www.ksde.org/Agency/Division-of-Learning-Services/Teacher-Licensure-and-Accreditation/Licensure/License-Requirements/Emergency-Substitute-License-Requirements.

In addition to being able to prove that you have earned a minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university and to filling out the form, you will also need to send in a set of fingerprints and a fee for a background check before your emergency substitute license can be issued. You can order the fingerprinting card here: https://www.ksde.org/Agency/Division-of-Learning-Services/Teacher-Licensure-and-Accreditation/Licensure/Fingerprint-Card-Order-Form.

Changing Health Insurance Plans This Year? Participate in a Short Research Study!

Are you considering changing health insurance plans this year during open enrollment? If so, you are invited to participate in a study designed to explore how people make health insurance decisions. Each participant will be given a $5 Starbucks digital gift card for their time.

We are conducting a study where we will be interviewing ESU employees to understand why individuals decide to switch health insurance plans. Research participants will be asked to complete a short questionnaire and participate in an interview via Zoom scheduled at your convenience.

If you are switching ESU health insurance plans or changing to a health plan outside of ESU, please contact Emily Vardell, Assistant Professor in the School of Library and Information Management, at evardell@emporia.edu so that we can set up a time to talk about your health insurance choices. The questionnaires and interviews should take less than one hour to finish. Thank you so much for your support!
