Healthy Hornet Challenge Wellness Wednesday -- Physical Wellness

With the Summer Healthy Hornet Challenge in full swing, we wanted to highlight the weekly dimension(s) through a Wellness Wednesday Hornet Announcement! Below you can find some info on this week's dimension as well as links to the HHC Newsletter that will have additional information!

This week we will focus on the dimension of physical wellness. Throughout this week, take time to reflect on your physical wellness efforts. Physical wellness encourages participation in regular physical activities which improve cardiovascular strength and endurance, flexibility and muscular strength. To remain well, physical wellness requires that you take steps to protect your physical health by eating a well-balanced diet, getting plenty of physical activity and exercise, maintaining proper weight, getting enough sleep, as well as avoiding risky sexual behavior, the misuse of drugs, alcohol, and other harmful substances, and limiting exposure to environmental contaminants.

With limited gym access, we know the past weeks have been challenging. Challenge yourself to move for 30 minutes every day! This can include going for walks, bike rides, disc golf, virtual group fitness classes, and more!

To learn more about Physical Wellness, visit the Healthy Hornet Challenge Week 1 Newsletter by clicking HERE!

Windows Update Restart

In order to always have the latest Windows updates on your computer, it’s important to restart your computer about once a week.  Due to the way Microsoft delivers the updates, this does not mean ‘shut down’ and boot up later.  It does, however, mean that you should manually restart your Windows 10 machines with the RESTART option, not the SHUT DOWN option.  Restarting keeps essential Microsoft services running and allows the update to install correctly.  It only takes a few moments but is important to keep your computer protected with the latest security updates and patches. Thanks for helping us keep our computers safe.  Questions may be directed to the IT Help Desk at 341-5555.

During a time when social distancing is the norm, let’s come together digitally through fitness. The 2020 Recreation Movement allows Students, faculty, university staff and alumni to participate in online workout classes from 40 different colleges and universities across the country. Digital fitness and recreation are great ways to have people connect, engage and stay healthy during these uncertain times.

How to get active:

1. Visit 2020RecreationMovement.com.

2. Create an Account using your ESU email (@g.emporia.edu & @emporia.edu) email address.

3. Chose and take any class you'd like.

4. Log your minutes!

Search the hashtag #RecAtHome to see workouts posted from trainers and group fitness instructors from ESU as well as universities across the country!  TikTok, Instagram are just a couple places to start with pre-recorded workout sessions on 2020RecreationMovement.com.
