Heat Advisory
The National Weather Service has issues a heat advisory for all of northeast, east-central and north-central Kansas — including Lyon County and the city of Emporia.
The advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Wednesday until 10 p.m. Friday. Air temperatures in the middle 90s to around 105 degrees will combine with humid conditions to create heat indices of 100 to 108 degrees each afternoon. With overnight low temperatures expected to be in the middle and upper 70s, little relief from the heat is expected at night.
Heat illnesses are possible for thos spending prolonged time outdoors and those more susceptible to heat illnesses, such as children or the elderly.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9-1-1.

Heat Advisory Through Sunday
The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect until 7 PM CDT Sunday.
TEMPERATURE...High temperatures each afternoon will range from the mid to upper 90s with heat index values between 100 to 105 degrees.
IMPACTS...Heat illnesses are possible for those spending prolonged time outdoors or those more susceptible to heat illnesses, such as children or the elderly.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Take extra precautions...if you work or spend time outside. When possible...reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work...the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency...call 9 1 1.
