ESU Pflaum Memorial Lecture

On Monday, April 30 at 7:30 PM, Emporia State University alums Ian Burch and Pat Janssen will discuss their sound design careers in the Ronald Q. Frederickson Theatre. Burch and Janssen are presenting the Pflaum Memorial Lecture entitled "Sound in Entertainment: A Talk with Sound Designers for Stage, Screen, and Everything In Between."  The lecture is presented by the ESU Department of Communication and Theatre with additional support from the ESU Special Events Board.
Ian Burch currently works as a Senior Engineer at Diablo Sound of California Institute of the Arts in North Hollywood, Calif. Burch graduated from ESU in 2002 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre, then went on to study at the California Institute of the Arts, earning a Master of Fine Arts in 2005. Burch has also done work as a Sound/Video Supervisor at South Coast Repertory, and as an Assistant Technical Director of Sound and Video at the Roy and Edna Disney/Cal Arts Theatre (REDCAT).
Pat Janssen (BFA, 2008) is a Los Angeles based sound editor, re-recording mixer, and engineer. After graduating from ESU, he went on to earn a Master's of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts in 2011.   At ESU, he was active in all aspects of production.  He performed in numerous ESU Theatre productions and was also active with Zoiks!  Janssen's film projects have played in theaters and festivals all over, including Sundance, SXSW and AFI. Jannsen has worked sound design for multiple theme parks including Universal Studios Orlando, The Making of Harry Potter and the San Diego Zoo.​
The Pflaum Lecture is held annually to honor the memory of Dr. George R.R. Pflaum who came to Kansas State Teacher's College in 1923 and served on the faculty for over forty years. The Pflaum Memorial Lecture will be free and open to the public on April 30 at 7:30 PM in the Frederickson Theatre in Roosevelt Hall.  Refreshments will be served.
