Flags lowered to honor the late Kansas Sen. Don Steffes

The ESU flags on campus will be lowered  to half-staff on Friday, June 1, for the funeral of Kansas state Sen. Don Steffes. Gov. Jeff Colyer has ordered flags lowered tomorrow in McPherson County, where Sen. Steffes lived.
Don Steffes was a native of Olpe and an alumnus of Emporia State. He graduated in 1952 with a business degree and in 1958 with a master’s in business and economics.
From Gov. Colyer's message:
"I was pleased to get to know Senator Steffes when he served in the Legislature. He was a delightful person and an honorable Kansan. On behalf of all the citizens of Kansas, Lt. Governor Tracey Mann and I, along with our families, extend our deepest sympathies to Senator Steffes' family."
Steffes spent his life serving actively on the local, state, and national level. In addition to his time spent as a state Senator, he also spent many years working in the banking industry including several years as president of the Kansas Bankers Association and on the State Banking Board.
