The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that includes Lyon County and the city of Emporia.
The advisory is in effect from noon today until 8 p.m. Wednesday. High temperatures are expected to be in the middle 90s to around 100 degrees with afternoon heat indices around 105 degrees.
Prolonged exposure to the heat could lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion or possible heat stroke.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot weather is expected, during which heat illnesses are possible:
Limit your outdoor activities during this time.
Stay in an air-conditioned building.
Check up on relatives and neighbors.
While outside:
Drink plenty of water
Wear light and loose fitting clothing, and
Reduce strenuous activities.
