Bitter Cold Tuesday Night Through Wednesday

Emporia is in a Wind Chill Advisory from 9 p.m. today (Tuesday) to noon Wednesday. This means dangerously cold wind chills of -15 to -25 degrees are possible. Are this cold can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends wearing:

  • A hat;
  • Scarf or knit mask to cover the face and mouth;
  • Sleeves snug at the wrist;
  • Mittens (because they are warmer than gloves);
  • Water-resistant coat and boots
  • Several layers of loose clothing
