Ruth Schillinger was a beloved faculty member at Emporia State University in the mid-twentieth century. She was also ESU's last Dean of Women. Dr. Schillinger died in 1997 and is commemorated through this annual award. Past recipients have included Dr. Betsy Yanik, Dr. Ellen Hansen, former Dean Marie Miller, Dr. Gaelynn Wolf Bordonaro, and Professor Amy Sage Webb. The Ruth Schillinger Award is presented to a member of the faculty who has been nominated by a colleague, student, or other interested individual. The text on the plaque reads: "The Ruth Schillinger Faculty Award for Outstanding Service to the Women of Emporia State University is presented to (Prof X) in recognition of her/his many contributions to the lives of Emporia women." The recipient should be involved in service to the women of Emporia State University in capacities such as teaching, mentoring, advising and/or publishing. The award recipient will be selected by a committee of faculty from across the campus.
Nominating materials should include the letter of nomination, the nominee's current vita, and additional letters of support. Please submit all materials to the Office of Ethnic and Gender Studies, located in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, 433 South Morse Hall, Campus Box 4076. Nominations must be submitted by 5PM on Tuesday, March 5th. Hard copy or electronic nominations are both acceptable.
