I am working to create a campus wide ESU Social Media Detox Program. I would like for you, your department, students, and staff to consider participating in a 30 day Social Media Detox Challenge. There will be daily tips and tricks to help you decrease your cell phone use. The use of social media can give off an addictive drug called dopamine. This makes social media and your cell phone virtually an addiction. My hope is that ESU is able to step back and examine the positive and negative effects social media has on individuals lives.
Now, I understand we all use our cell phones and social media for school and work. It is nearly impossible to stop using social media completely, but hopefully together we can limit the amount of time we personally use it. In the weeks and days leading up to the challenge, I'll be posting and emailing statistics regarding the negative impact of social media.
We are looking for teams of 5 - 10 people, as well as individuals. We will have individual prizes as long as team prizes which include the following:
* $50 ESU Bookstore gift card to the individual with the highest % decrease in social media usage
* $50 ESU Bookstore gift card to the individual with the highest number of zero social media days
* Team prize will receive a pizza party provided by the CSI to the team with the lowest average social media time
If you have any questions or would like to participate please let me know! Just email the CSI front desk at < csidesk1@emporia.edu >
I am excited to detox with you!
Thanks for your consideration,
Alex Gill
