INCLEMENT WEATHER

A reminder that during inclement weather conditions the campus community should either listen to KVOE AM radio station (1400) or  Kansas Public Radio; or  watch KWCH , WIBW, KSNT or KTKA television stations; or access the home page for the University ( www.emporia.edu ) for a possible closing of the University due to inclement weather.  There will be a notification sent only if there is a closing to be announced and the University's Text/Email Emergency Notification System will be activated (for those who have this service).  There will be no notification if the University is to remain open.

The prediction for Friday is for the possibility of freezing precipitation starting in the morning and turning to snow throughout the day until late afternoon.  The prediction is 3-5 inches of snow through Friday.  Snow returns on Saturday afternoon and through the night with another 2-4 inches possible.  The crews will out pre-treating roads, parking lots and sidewalks on Thursday.  Crews will work throughout the day and evening on Friday to treat surfaces.  Please be aware that surfaces may be icy and slick. We will also be working on Saturday and Sunday to complete the treating and clearing of the snow.  Please keep on treated surfaces, pay attention and take care.

During the weather event, also be aware that crews from the Academic, Residential and Memorial Union facilities will be working and treating around their respective buildings and entrances. Please report any trouble areas to the University Facilities Office (5331) or to Police and Safety (5337). You can view Snow Removal Maps indicating the priority and stages of work at http://www.emporia.edu/alerts/documents/campus_snow_removal_map.pdf.  Even with cleared walks and entrances, everyone should take extreme care due to continual thawing and freezing cycles occurring during and after each event.  Persons with mobility restrictions should take extreme precautions and request assistance (call Facilities @ 341-5331) if needed or arrange with their departments to remain at home.  Everyone should take extra time and be extra careful during and after the weather event.

Thank you.
