Dear Hornet Nation,
Work on the Morse Complex may look quiet right now, but heavy equipment and tearing down buildings is right around the corner. Salvage crews have finished their work inside the buildings, removing items that can be reused in other projects or sold to benefit area nonprofits.
Starting July 1, a large 100,000-pound machine will be brought to campus to tear down part of Central Morse and Northeast Morse. Understandably, that work will be loud and those in nearby buildings will feel vibrations at times.
The demolition crews plan to work both early and late, likely from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays, to accomplish most of the teardown before school starts in August. Please remember that 15th Avenue will remain closed between Singular/Trusler Halls and the southwest corner of Welch Stadium for the duration of the project. Construction fences also block part of the pedestrian mall on the west side.
If you’d like to keep an eye on the progress of demolition to Northeast once it begins, you can watch a live feed from a camera facing the northwest corner of Northeast Morse.
As always, thank you for your patience as we move forward with our residential life master plan. It’s an exciting time to be a Hornet!
