RE320ZB- Disability in a Diverse World- 3 credit hours

This course is designed to increase students' awareness, sensitivity, and understanding of the individual, social, cultural, political, and legal aspects of disability in our society.  The class will provide students with a variety of opportunities to explore their own attitudes, values, and beliefs about persons with disabilities and other minority identities.

 

RE320ZC- Counseling with Deaf and Hard of Hearing- 3 credit hours

This course focuses on the issues that counselors may face when providing rehabilitation or counseling services to individuals who are deaf, deaf-blind, hard of hearing, or late-deafened. Hearing loss and deafness is considered a low-incidence disability. Individuals who have a hearing loss encounter a number of barriers to communication, employment, and service provision.  This course will give a historical overview of the educational, social service, technological advances that impact this community.  Vital information on how to use interpreters and technology and cultural perspectives of deaf individuals will be shared through videos and articles.

 

RE325ZA- Counseling & Disability Issues of Returning Veterans of War- 3 credit hours

This course focuses on physical, psychological, cognitive, emotional, and vocational issues of returning veterans of war. The effects of disability on veterans and their families following their assimilation back into society are explored. Focus on the most prevalent disabilities experienced by veterans of war will be discussed, as well as the EEOC and other relevant state and federal mandates pertaining to employment of returning veterans. There is substantial focus on the issues of veterans and military personnel who are women, as well as veterans from culturally and ethnically diverse populations.
